When you schedule a stay in one of our summer drop camps you get to enjoy all the wilderness has to offer while leaving all the work of getting in and out and setting up camp to us. Our camps are fully set up with wall tents for cooking and large tepee style tent for sleeping. Chairs, tables, cots, cook stove, water filter, and all cooking utensils are provided. You just need to bring your own food, or let us arrange it for an additional fee. Clients and their gear will be brought in and out of camp on horseback.
Our Lime Mesa camp is our largest camp and is typically set to accommodate up to 10 people. It is perfect for large groups because it sits just outside the Weminuche wilderness boundary, so it has no wilderness restrictions. It is also our most accessible camp and is only a 1-2 hour hike or horseback ride from the nearest trailheads. This camp is perfect for relaxing in the high country and taking in the scenery. Day hikes can be done to fish creeks, lakes, and climb nearby peaks.
Our West Virginia Creek camp sits within the Weminuche wilderness and can accommodate up to 6 people at a time. It is our most accessible wilderness camp and sits next to West Virginia Creek. This camp is perfect for relaxing in the high country and taking in the scenery. Day hikes can be done to fish creeks, lakes, and climb nearby peaks.
Our Emerald Lake camp lies near the shore of Emerald Lake and many consider it to be our most scenic camp with dramatic views of the Needle mountains. This camp is typically set for up to 4 people and is about a 3 hour horseback ride from the nearest trailhead. Emerald lake has very good trout fishing and there are 3 other lakes that can be accessed by foot during your stay.
Our Chicago Basin Camp is our most remote wilderness camp. it sits in a high mountain basin and is surrounded by 14,000ft peaks. This camp is typically set for up to 4 people and is about a 6 hour horseback ride. It is an excellent base camp location to explore the region's mining history, view wildlife including a resident mountain goat herd, or attempt a climb some of Colorado's most remote 14,000 foot peaks. This camp can also be hiked to from the Needleton drop off on the Durango Silverton Railroad.
Our Vallecito Creek camp is also a very remote wilderness camp and has our best river fishing because it sits on the banks of Vallecito Creek. Vallecito Creek is a large creek with excellent trout fishing. There are also numerous side creeks and small lakes that can be hiked to for day fishing trips. This camp is typically set for up to 4 people and is about a 4 hour horseback ride in.
All camps have a 2 person minimum.
